tapah  road

the  station

There are a few interesting artifacts and railwayana relics to see at Tapah Road.
Picture
The modern station is typical of those on the ETS line from Ipoh to Kuala Lumpur.
Picture
There are nice views of Perak scenery from the station pedestrian bridge.

The good news is that the old station is still standing, wedged up against the new one. It is being used as a store and there is a small police post in the old ticket office.
Picture
Old signage is still in place, 'Pejabat Bungkusan' meaning Parcel Office, 'MUJ' meaning Track Inspector's office and 'Pejabat Merinyu Semboyan' , meaning Signalling Inspector.

A wheelset (above) has been displayed in front of the new station. An old water tower (right), presumably left over from the age of steam locomotives, has been preserved alongside the new platform.

There are a number of wooden properties in front of the station which once may have been occupied by railway employees (possibly still are).
Picture
Tapah Road used to be the junction for the old branch line to Teluk Anson (now Teluk Intan). From the road bridge near the station it is still possible to make out where the tracks of the branch line used to fork off to the right.

nearby

Teluk Intan, with its famous landmark the Leaning Clock Tower, is about 30km away. You can read about it on my Malaysia Traveller website.

The Pasir Salak Historical Complex is a riverside compound with some attractive buildings and a museum commemorating the assassination of JWW Birch, the first British Resident of Perak. It is about 32km from Tapah Road and worth a visit if you are in the vicinity. You can find out more on my Malaysia Traveller website.

Another place nearby is Tapah, which is the starting point of the old route to Cameron Highlands.
