batang kali
the station
Batang Kali railway station is a stop on the Tanjung Malim - Rawang KTM Komuter line.
Trains stop here roughly once every hour in each direction between the hours of 5am and 11pm. You can see the timetable on KTMB's website here. Batang Kali is a long spread out town and too far to cover all of it on foot. There are a few rows of shophouses in front of the station and the village of Kg. Bukit Chandang is across the busy highway. |
The town
Batang Kali is a town in Hulu Selangor district. It is best known for an infamous incident in 1948 during the Malayan Emergency in which 24 Chinese rubber plantation workers were allegedly killed in cold blood by British soldiers. This event is known as the Batang Kali Massacre. You can read more details on my Thrifty Traveller blog.
Batang Kali was a tin mining and rubber planting centre but in recent years new housing, commercial and light industrial developments have sprung up.
Here are a few photos taken within walking distance of the station.

An alternative, back road to Genting Highlands runs from Batang Kali. It is a pleasant drive and emerges at Gohtong Jaya near the cable car to Resorts World Genting Highlands.
The hills around Batang Kali are good for trekking and I have visited a waterfall near here which you can read about on my Thrifty Traveller blog.
