serendah

the  station

Picture
Serendah Railway Station
Serendah Railway Station is served by the Tanjung Malim - Rawang commuter service which runs roughly once an hour in each direction.

You can see KTMB's timetable for this sector here.

The ETS train service does not stop here, nor do North South Intercity trains.

The station is located about 2km from the town centre of Serendah.

history

Here is my World War Two 'Serendah' story.

When British forces were falling back from Slim River, the officer in charge called HQ for instructions.

' Where shall we make a stand?' asked the officer.
'Serendah' replied the General commanding HQ.
'Did you say surrender sir?'
'Yes, dammit, Serendah'
And he did.

That's just my silly joke. In reality there was a brief but bitter engagement at Serendah as the Gurkhas who had been left as a rearguard put up stiff, but ultimately futile, resistance against the Japanese. The Japanese entered the town on 10th January 1942.

nearby

  • Serendah means 'low lying' and has always been prone to flooding, especially in the days when alluvial tin mining activity was carried out here. To reduce flood risk, the British built Seven Wells (Perigi Tujuh), a barrier with seven sluices of varying heights to regulate the water flow. You can find some photos of it on this blog.

  • Serendah Waterfall is a popular spot for picnics and swimming. You can read about it on my Thrifty Traveller blog.
