behrang

the  station

Behrang station is another modern station completed around 2008 to accommodate the double tracking and electrification of the ETS route from Kuala Lumpur.

The platforms are massive and the entire population of Behrang could have a sit down meal on the platform and still have space left over.

Behrang was originally a logging area, then came rubber. Now the town is surrounded mostly by palm oil plantations and other agriculture.

within walking distance of the station

Behrang is a tiny town about 10km north of Tanjung Malim.

On one side of the tracks is Behrang Stesen, comprising two rows of old fashioned wooden shophouses. On the other side of the tracks are a few residential streets.

Every town in Malaysia seems to have its Singer shop selling not just sewing machines but DVD players, irons, rice cookers, washing machines and other appliances.
There must be good fishing in the rivers near Behrang as I spotted at least two shops selling fishing equipment here.

Nearby

Apart from fishing, the only attraction I have heard about in this vicinity is hiking up Gunung Liang which sits on the Pahang/Perak border, about 18km due east of Behrang. This mountain is 1933m high and climbers have to endure an arduous 17km hike from the trailhead and back, usually taking 2 days.
